The weather in Michigan dropped from 70s to 40s this weekend and that means hibernation mode starts for me. I went home for the weekend and enjoyed sweatpants, sports and food I didn’t have to cook. I did actually move myself once to visit a sweet little town called Northville. The downtown area was decked out in Halloween cheer. Skeletons were dressed as politicians, hockey players and movie stars scattered all over and their little movie theater was playing Hocus Pocus! We wandered in and out of bike shops and boutiques then came home to watch baseball and Game Change (amazing but infuriating).

I wear a variation of this outfit every weekend. The hat covers up dirty hair, sunglasses mask lack of makeup, and I’m obsessed with this varsity jacket for chilly-not-yet-freezing weather. Before I visited New York this fall, the last person I saw wear a varsity jacket was my brother in 2002 but these were all over the place; embellished with studs and patterns. I also saw everyone wearing low-heeled ankle boots. So, like an follower, I latched onto both trends and bought a coat and boots asap. I love these boots because they’re comfortable, neutral and can be worn with leggings, skirts or jeans. This is my take on an easy fall weekend outfit.

simple fall jewelry, simple necklaces, style blog

{I love this necklace for so many reasons but mostly because of the story behind it. My mom found this diamond on the floor of one of her college lecture halls. She took it to a jeweler and asked if they could shape gold around it and make it into a necklace. As a little girl I always went though her jewelry box and remember admiring this piece. This year I turned 23 on April 23 (apparently that is your golden birthday unbeknownst to me) and my mom gave me this necklace. I wear it almost every day because of it’s simple beauty and the story behind it.}

{Notice the striped socks (they’re my mom’s)}

My mom also wanted me to note that she and my dad took these photos. She was flabbergasted when she realized my camera autofocused and went around the yard taking photos of everything. The last few days were so relaxing and this outfit was the perfect match for a casual, fall weekend.
